Myths comprise of beliefs such as meditation is a religion. Although this is not true, it can be a tool to access the Devine, along with using an additional religious ritual.
Although some may think meditation is a form of escapism where you would not be facing reality and basically sticking your head in the sand, Meditation is actually the opposite. Some people may take drugs for escapism but then when they come back down to earth, the problem is still there. People tend to want to have escapism when they are faced with a problem.
With meditation, we focus what the problem is and observe the emotion that has arisen and deemed unpleasant. Unpleasantness generally has an effect on speeding up our heart rate and this is usually when we react. Through breath meditation, we can slow down the heart rate, observe the thoughts and feelings and decide on the alternative options we can take action.
Meditation can also be seen as Woo hoo. The word woo-hoo means a disapproval and/or dis-belief that meditation can actually do anything. In reality, the benefits of meditation is backed up by scientific evidence.
When it comes down to who can do meditation and how to sit, many have the belief that you’d be dressed in a white gown and sat on the floor, crossed legged and chanting Om. Actually, you can choose to sit on a chair or lay down or even cay out a walking meditation. As long as you are wearing loose fitting clothing so you are not distracted from discomfort, anyone can meditate.
